Diane Mannion, BOCA GATE, plein air oil, 6x6"
Tough decision this morning... yoga or paint, paint or yoga? So, painted while John taught an hour yoga class... I'll stretch later. Found a BLISSFUL location which I'll share with a few artist friends later, but for now it's top secret. Simply wanted to capture the effect of morning sun on the arched gate and I'm happy with it. Nothing more satisfying than going home with a good one, it's a lot like fishing. It would be possible to polish this further with the photos I took, but I am saving it as is, 100% pure plein air.

Perfect spot to park and paint!

Diane--that is often my dilemma too--yoga usually wins though--I need to make the choice you made more often--that and get some $ coming in! You were certainly rewarded with this one!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol! I know I need to do more yoga to stay strong enough to paint... and with a built in yoga-instructor at home, I have no excuse. And yes, need more of those $$$! Who doesn't?
ReplyDeleteWonderful Diane - absolutely the right decision! Had to laugh when I saw your easel....zoomed in for a close-up of your " squint" and "paint faster stupid" cracked me right up!
ReplyDeleteYou stopped at just the right time! Love this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kellie! "Paint faster, Stupid!" After my friend's artist aunt died, the quote was found on the inside of the inherited paintbox. We laughed because it makes so much sense. And I like it inside my box because it reminds me not to think too much... just loosen up and slap that brush around. Don't be afraid... it's only paint.
ReplyDeleteWE both painted the sun on gates/doorways for today's blogs. Neat. Love yours with the lovely tile roof to give a glow.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy! Maybe it's because I only had an hour to paint... any longer, I may have over-fiddled.

ReplyDeleteHaving survived the 30/30 with you, Julie... in some ways we may be on the same wave-length. An entrance, doorway into another artistic adventure? Every painting is a new window into what we see and translate in paint.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you "slap that brush around". You have captured the light beautifully - I particularly love the terracotta tiles.
ReplyDeleteWendy! Thank you for your comment. Off to slap the brush and sling some paint again this morning. Worked on a two hour study in the studio that was a total wipeout yesterday. I find it easier to paint from life than photos! Something spontaneous happens while painting plein air, captures the "momment" like nothing else can.
