Another Visit

Diane Mannion, Another Visit, 10x8" oil on linen

#7 of the 30/30 Challenge... a bit behind!

A Painting Revisited

Painted this little girl a few weeks ago but thought I could take it in another direction and try again.  Used the same reference material in a class I taught yesterday.

First version.  Happy with it but wanted to push the color, composition, and girl's stance.
Diane Mannion, Waffling Waver, 12x9" oil on linen

My pencil sketch with marker lines indicating movement and dynamic directions for composition.

Underpainting with Indian yellow/Transparent Orange Oxide toned linen.  Ultramarine and orange oxide made a neutral ocean blue/green.
This is how the demo sketch looked at the end of class.  Really liked the underpainting showing through in the sky and water.
The final painting again.  Like it more than the first version!

I love seeing the process and both versions! Love the intensity of color and I love seeing your sketch to give you direction. Thanks so much for posting!

Thank you, Maria. Wonderful to get feedback on my mini-lessons. I love teaching and experimenting and learning while I do.

Beautiful colours and love the looseness and confidence of line. Great.

Thanks, Dayle! I think the thumbnails and action lines done before really help.
