Diane Mannion, Still by the Pond, 8x10" oil on canvas
#5 for my 30/30 Challenge, Close to Home
Field Study to Studio
Painted for a short time at the Englewood Sports Complex this morning.
The scene
Thumbnail sketch
Sketched on canvas with transparent orange oxide
Color notes and block-in thirty minutes from thumbnail sketch
Finished a few hours later back in the studio
A note about the title: Every time I've painted in this location the same little white egret has been wading along the edge of the pond. Today, a little blue heron joined him.
And I would have spent more time on location but was in a lonely spot when two guys pulled up in a pickup. Made me nervous, so I made a quick exit. Safety first!

Nice landscape. I like your softness. Thanks for sharing the process.
Thank you, Linda. I would have spent more time on location but a car with some, well, interesting guys pulled up and I was there all alone. Made a swift exit. Safety first.
I get such a feeling of movement with this painting. It's as though I can feel the breeze ruffling those light-struck leaves. Very nice.
Shirley, thank you for your lovely comment!
