Palm Study

Darn Palms

One of the most difficult trees to paint, at least in my opinion... are palms!  This is a study in preparation for teaching my classes this week.
Painted the purple palms on linen about a year ago, so the paint was dry.
Started with broken color in the sky, dark to light, warm to cool.  Then blended with soft brush.  Got so carried away with painting, these are the only progress shots I managed to take.

Only four more to go for Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge!

Makes me dream of sun and warmth. It is so cold this morning in Montreal!

I know how lucky I am! Sometimes it's hard to believe there's winter somewhere. Stay warm, Martine! I lived in Montreal one summer... hot and incredible thunderstorms.

I agree--very difficult to paint! I've had a couple of failures, but will keep trying--I love palm trees. I like your purple underpainting. ;)

Thank you, Paula! I agree, I like the purple underpainting better than the final... stronger values, got to soft in the finish. It's all practice for the next one.
